about julie lardner

Skin therapist. Observationist. Writer.

My Story.

I’m Julie Lardner — a skin therapist and writer exploring beauty culture in our modern society. Here, I offer honest reflections on ageing and self-acceptance, alongside evidence-based skincare to help you make informed choices without the hype.

I created The Beauty Issue as a calm space for women who want an intelligent, grounded perspective on skincare — and to explore what it truly means to age well on their own terms.

Here, beauty isn’t about looking younger (though that helps). It’s about feeling grounded and confident — in your skin and in yourself.

As Katharine Hepburn once said:

“Either you are interesting at any age, or you are not. There is nothing particularly interesting about being old — or being young, for that matter.”

This is skincare, ageing, and another kind of beauty for women 40 and beyond — boldly pushing past the tired stereotypes we no longer need to endure.

Why The Beauty Issue?

Because beauty is personal, and ageing is complicated.

The skincare world can be noisy, confusing, and often overwhelming. As we get older, our skin changes –  and so does how we feel about it. The beauty industry hasn’t always helped. It’s sold us miracles, guilt, and comparison.

I want to take a different approach.

You’ll find straight-talking advice, grounded in professional training and decades of hands-on experience. I’ve worked with clinics, cosmeceutical brands, and thousands of women navigating the very same questions you might be asking now:

  • What skincare actually works at my age?

  • Do I need to change my routine now that I’m in perimenopause?

  • Why does my skin feel so reactive all of a sudden?

  • How can I care for myself without getting swept up in the noise?

I don’t believe in miracle cures or overnight fixes – just clear, compassionate guidance to help you age positively and make smart, informed decisions about your skin.

Why trust me?

I’ve spent more than three decades immersed in skin, both professionally and personally.

  • I trained and worked as a skin therapist across professional clinics

  • I’ve educated others in the use of active skincare and advanced technologies

  • I’ve written for skincare brands and businesses that value integrity

  • And most importantly, I’ve asked the same questions you’re probably asking now

This blend of observation, experience, and care is what I bring to The Beauty Issue.

“Healthy, glowing skin isn’t just about what you put on your face. It’s how you live, how you think, and how you choose to show up – today, and every day.”

You get to choose how you age.

Whether you do a little, a lot, or nothing at all, you get to choose how you age.

At The Beauty Issue, I’ll help you tune out the noise, tune into your needs, and build a skincare and self-care approach that feels right for you.

Let’s make space for thoughtful skincare, curiosity, and grace.

Want to redefine beauty? Let’s do this!
